Unique nature in a triangle of towns
The nature park Lüneburger Heide is a part of the holiday region Lüneburger Heide and lies in the triangle between Hamburg, Bremen and Hannover. It stretches from Buchholz in the Nordheide in the north to Soltau in the south and Schneverdingen in the west, as far as the town boundaries of Lüneburg in the east. It contains parts of the 3 districts Lüneburg, Harburg and Soltau-Fallingbostel.
The nature park Lüneburger Heide contains 35 cities and communities. In the heart of the nature park Lüneburger Heide lays the 23,400 hectare nature protected area Lüneburger Heide (also called Naturschutzpark). Up until February 2007 this was identical with the nature park Lüneburger Heide and so formed one of the smallest nature parks in Germany. In February 2007 the nature park was quadrupled and now contains over 107,000 hectares.
