Prime aim of the nature park Lüneberger Heide is to encourage and to support the goals and the commitment of the people that are living here and of the organisations and the initiatives.

The nature park promotes the ongoing development of the region as an environment for living, economics and recreation. Hereby it is retaining the diversity and beauty of the unique cultivation by using it considerately. The nature park Lüneburger Heide, in cooperation with its partners, creates for its visitors an attractive range of nature related experiences and strengthens the environmentally sympathetic (sustainable) tourism. The value of the region should be increased by the marketing of local products.
 
Besides the protection of the nature and the landscape, the conservation and development of the regional culture and traditions enjoy a high priority in the nature park Lüneburger Heide. The regional identity should be strengthened and the quality of life should be raised. The charm of the past and the challenges of the present should be brought in unison with one another.

Fundamentally the function of the nature park Lüneburger Heide is to:

• conserve and develop the cultural landscape
• support the ongoing regional development
• encourage environmentally compatible tourism /sustainable tourism
• and to strengthen the ecological awareness
