Fields and meadows- agriculture in the nature park
The nature park Lüneburger Heide is a rural area where, even today, farming plays an important role. It is not only an important employer, but also a producer of high quality, ecologically grown food and sustains its attractiveness as a tourist region through its care for the landscape. Fields of blossoming rapes and sunflowers, corn fields, meadows with grazing cows and horses contribute to the overall picture of the nature park as much as the heathland does. Regional products and dishes such as the “Heide potato“, “Heide asparagus“ or the „Buckwheat cake“ create a positive image for the region.
With the increased competition in a globalised world, the agriculture has found new sources of income and has thus successfully faced up to the present-day challenge. The farmers in the region use renewable energy (or bio energy). They sell their products in farm shops, offer our visitor’s particular experiences during their holidays on the farms and with specifically targeted offers for schools and groups and enhance their ecological education.
