Experience at and on water

If you would like to go for a walk or a hike along a river or ponds in the Heath, or if you want to go in a pedal boat or in a canoe, you can find some valuable tips here.

Braunausee

The Braunausee(Braunau lake)in Bispingen Behringen entices one to swim, take strolls and or to go  fishing. Every year in August the lake festival is held, with its unique fluorescent water games. Diversity is guaranteed by the wander trails around the lake, a spacious recreation area including a playground and for the water enthusiasts a bathing area with a beach and pedal boats.

Lopausee

The Lopausee(Lopau lake) in Amelinghausen offers a variety of possibilities. The circular course, 2.2km long is suitable for a leisurely walk, or as the starting point for a longer treck in the region. The Family Adventure Path on the banks offers a lot of variety for the children on their walk. On top of that there is a pedal boat hire on the lake. Even the leap into cold water is possible. Cafes on the banks invite one to stop and relax. You can also combine your stay at the lake with a visit to the Hochseilgartens (Tightrope Garden),which is direct on the shore.

Paddling on the river

If you want to take a canoe through the rivers of the region, there are canoe hires there in the Nature Park:

Schwindequelle

The Schwindequelle (the Schwinde Spring) is the second largest in Niedersachsen (Lower Saxony), and has been under environmental protection since 1936. The Schwinde originates here on an area of 30 sq. meters. Approximately 60 liters of water per second reach the daylight. The light effects, created when the light is broken up can be very spectacular. The almost unadulterated nature  tempts one to stay, and or to take long walks. There is more information on this unusual region on a notice board in the middle of the heath.
