The Pietzmoor – not so scary but very impressing
In the Pietzmoor, at the southeast rim of the town Schneverdingen, you can wander along kilometer long paths and wooden walks, through the fascinating high moor landscape, with its specific animal and plant world. Up until the '50s turf was cut, the typical fuel of the Heidjers. The moor can grow again now thanks to successful recultivation. With its bizarre landscape and its secretive atmosphere it draws a lot of visitors here, who when they leave are deeply impressed by this small 8000 thousand year old treasure. The overall picture is composed of cotton grass, peat moss, crossed leaved heather and sundews. If you're lucky you might see some of the typical inhabitants of the moors such as the different Dragonflies, or Moor Frogs, the Common Viper, Grouse, Curlews or the Short Eared Owl.
The Pietzmoor is worth a visit any time of the year and in every weather, whether it be under clear blue skies, when the reflection of the water is so intensively clear, in the winter when the water is frozen, in autumn when the fog hangs over the moor or in May/June when the cotton grass is blossoming.
In Pietzmoor Nature and Landscape Tours are offered on a regular basis.
