When does the heather blossom anyway?

The common heather (Calluna Vulgaris ) blossoms from august to September. The landscape is then drenched in a strong violet and develops its special attraction. Usually the blossoming is from 08.08. until 09.09., but that can vary slightly. The less common cross leaved heather (Erica Tetralix) begins to blossom in July. The intensity of the blossom can vary from year to year, depending on the weather conditions.

Blooming Heather even in winter-
the Heath garden makes it possible!

At the edge of the Schneverdinger Environmentally Protected Area Höpen is the frequently visited Heath garden. In this circular garden are over 130 different varieties of heather, and approx. 120.000 plants, so that one can enjoy the large variety of blossoming heather the whole year round. Right beside this is the Schneverdinger Sheep pen where the popular „Shepherd Evenings“ take place regularly during the season, where it's possible to partake of local delicacies and enjoy the meat from the Heidschnucke.
